UMAR - Union of Alternative and Response Women is a feminist, non-profit women's association with a national scope, operating in Mainland Portugal and the Islands, with branches in Braga, Coimbra, Porto, Lisbon, Setúbal, Viseu, and the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The association’s mission is to promote and defend women's rights in both laws and daily life, combating all forms of violence and discrimination, including sexism, classism, racism, homophobia, ageism, and other oppressions that put women in socially disadvantaged situations.
Thus, UMAR has focused its work on promoting gender equality and equal opportunities between women and men, as well as equality among women, fighting for their integration into social and economic development policies. In Porto, UMAR manages the Domestic and Gender-Based Violence Support and Monitoring Center, providing specialized support to women, children, and young people across the entire region.
