Traveling with sports equipment

Check the transport conditions for the different sports equipment and follow our recommendations.

Important information

  • Some aircrafts may have space limitations when transporting certain types of sports equipment. We recommend that you contact us via the Contact Center or a TAP counter at the airport to ensure that your sports equipment has been successfully registered. This transportation service is only available on flights operated by TAP, or operated on its behalf, and by TAP Express.

General rules

Your sports equipment can be included in the free hold baggage allowance as long as it is within the limits allowed by TAP.

32 kg / 70 lbs.

Please note that the sports equipment you can Check-in for free on the aircraft's hold depends on the fare you are travelling on, the destination of your flight and your TAP Miles&Go status.

If you need to transport sports equipment in addition to the hold baggage allowance included in your fare, you can book transport up to 24 hours before your flight, subject to availability, using the following purchase channels: flyTAP - during the booking process, Manage your Booking or online Check-in -TAP kiosks and counters at the airport, TAP Contact Center and Travel Agencies.

If you carry more pieces of baggage than your fare allows or exceed the weight and size limits described above, additional transport charges will apply at the airport. These fees are non-refundable.

Buy extra baggage

Need more space for your sports equipment?
Did you know that you can add hold baggage for your sports equipment as an extra service? Buy online, and in advance, from:
  • 30 EUR / 37 USD / 49 CAD for the first piece of hold baggage on the Discount fare;
  • 55 EUR / 64 USD / 85 CAD for extra hold baggage on other fares.

If your booking was made through a Travel Agency, you can purchase extra baggage directly from the agent.

Prices for extra baggage may vary depending on the purchase channel*, the time in advance of the purchase, the date of travel and the origin and destination. Check the price of extra baggage applicable to your trip, during the booking process ou, ultérieurement, dans Manage your Booking.
For transactions outside of Europe using a different local currency, the service fee will be converted from the fixed USD amount to the local currency (except in Canada).
