Quake is a museum that makes it possible to see and experience the Great Lisbon Earthquake. It is a journey back in time that invites us to learn more about Lisbon, seismic events, and the Age of Enlightenment.
Located in Belém, this museum combines fun and learning to provide an immersive and interactive experience that you will remember for years to come.
As one strolls through the streets of Lisbon today, stories of the Great Earthquake are lurking around every corner - in the orthogonal plan of the Baixa area, in the city's relationship with the river, and in several idioms still used today. But what happened to the vibrant medieval alleyways? And what were the various plans for the reconstruction of the city? What was the historical, philosophical and scientific impact of the earthquake on Enlightenment Europe?
Designed for locals and tourists, families and groups of friends, history lovers, amateur scientists, thrill-seekers, and all those looking for unique activities, the museum offers a journey to 1755 Lisbon and lets you experience the impact of an earthquake through a simulator, video-mapping and special effects.
Expect the unexpected on this journey, where you will learn how the earthquake changed the face of Lisbon forever and shocked the old continent.
