Lyon, a city that breathes History and Future

Travelling today is much easier than in the past. Air travel made distances shorter, democratized the trips and came to bring people and cultures together, enrich experiences and memories. In the heart of the Old Continent, Lyon is a constant promise that breathes History and at the same time offers what is most modern in the world.

Whether you choose to take a short trip to get away from the routine - maybe a long weekend - or maybe prefer to get to know your destination slowly and no rush, whether you're traveling in family, as a couple or alone, Lyon has the right ingredients for a unforgettable experience.

The confluence of the Saône and Rhône rivers and their multiple islands connected by bridges confirm Lyon as beautiful, as well as perfect for outdoor walks. More than the junction of two rivers, the merger is also of nature and urban modernity, of Past and of Future.

Silk, architecture and secret passages

It is in La Croix-Rousse that you can explore one of Lyon's most curious appanage. Strongly linked to the silk trade, especially since the 16th century, it was here that a large part of the workshops dedicated to this industry was found, which transformed Lyon into the Silk Capital of Europe.

Some are still working and can be visited, but what you can't ever miss are the traboules, ancient secret passages that cross the city between patios and buildings and that allowed the merchants to circulate with their valuable goods - the expensive silk - in secret, and at the same time, protected them from bad weather, which could damage the precious cargo.

With a rich Past, Lyon is also City of the Future

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historical and architectural value, Lyon has not stopped in time and has sought to keep up with the times and urgent concerns about the sustainability of the planet. Thus, those who live and visit Lyon are called to enjoy the city with the least environmental impact possible, either by the ways they circulate in the city - walking is very common and advisable, but there are also networks of shared bikes and other non-polluting means of transport available -, be it via consuming local products, cultivating the local economy or even through the promotion of businesses connected to sustainable tourism. In 2019, Lyon was even recognized as the European Capital of Intelligent Tourism.

When visiting Lyon, take the opportunity to breathe the nature that surrounds the city and look for an enriching experience, unique and in tune with everything that surrounds it.
