THE CENTRAL BANK OF BRAZIL, pursuant to Article 9 of Law No. 4,595, dated December 31, 1964, hereby announces that the NATIONAL MONETARY COUNCIL, in a meeting held on July 30, 1998, and in consideration of the provisions of Article 65(2) of Law No. 9,069, dated June 30, 1995, has issued the following DECISION:
Article 1 - Individuals entering or leaving the country with domestic or foreign currency in an amount exceeding 10,000 BRL (ten thousand Brazilian Reais) or its equivalent in other currencies, pursuant to Artiicle 65 (2.III) of Law No. 9,069/95, must submit to the Federal Revenue Service unit that has jurisdiction over the place of the passenger's entry into or exit from the country a statement specifying the amounts in cash, checks and traveler's checks that they are carrying, determined by the Minister of Finance.
Travelers leaving the country with foreign currency in cash, checks and traveler's checks exceeding the amount specified by this Resolution may be required to submit, within a timeframe to be set by the Federal Revenue Service:
